1 Voice Paper Cranes Project

Edit: We reached our goal, over 1000 paper cranes to see what we've done with them visit: http://sistermischif.blogspot.com/2008/02/paper-crane-anyone.html

The paper crane has come to symbolize peace. Join Sister Ora Gasmi Delight in folding paper cranes for peace, love and joy in our community. Make a wish as you fold your paper crane, and add it to the collection at 1 Voice Community Center. When we reach 1000 cranes, Sister Ora Gasmi will lead a New Year's Ritual at the center, releasing the community's wishes to the Universe. Stay tuned for more details.

Ancient Japanese legend says that 1000 paper cranes will bring the crane to grant your wish for health or long life. A little girl named Sadako Sasaski attempted to do this using paper from get well gifts, etc. during her stay in the hospital, and inspired a book based on her story, as well as a children's peace memorial. Over time, the paper crane has come to symbolize peace worldwide.

Join us as we wish for peace, love and joy in our Paper Crane Project! You can learn how to fold paper cranes here: http://monkey.org/~aidan/origami/crane/index.html and bring them in with you, or come on into the 1 Voice Community Center 4314 N. 7th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85013., and make them with us!

My Whirlwind Tour

Arizona, SD Caliornia, PS California, and back to AZ in 4 days:

Wednesday I arrived in Scottsdale to stay at a beautiful hotel and participate in the SouthWest HIV Prevention Conferance put on by Body Positive and the Heath Services department. Met lots of wonderful people who do a lot of good in this world, and learned much.

Just as my brain was about to explode from so much input, Sister Odora and I headed off into the sunset and down towards the still smoldering land of San Diego, CA. Which I must admit, is just as beautiful as I remembered it, even after the fires.

We arrived JUST in time to get dressed and meet up with the Asylem of the Tortured heart to celebrate Day of the Dead. What an incredible experience! I dedicated my evening to a young FtM named Ian who recently left this thing we call life and moved onto the next. To learn more about Ian visit woodtv.com

I will send the pics from the event to the Asylum of the Tortured Heart and you can probably see them soon on their website. And afterwards Odora and I had dinner with Sister Iona, and Novices Evalyn, Pixie. Brian's diner brought back memories of times there before I was a Novice myself.

Saturday was spent learning how to better mentor people and help them in their path to become Sisters. Really grateful to Sisters Amanda and Ghana for making that happen. And an evening drive with Odora to Palm Springs where I must admit, I missed out on a bar run to catch up on sleep before pride the next morning.

YUP! Palm Springs Pride! WOW it was amazing. Hot and sunny, but a lovely man from Aids Life Foundation saved my skin with his sunscreen. I think I counted 45 Sisters, but nuns on the run are so hard to keep track of! Seeing a couple Palm Springs Sisters taking their vows was beautiful. I'm sending those pics to the Palm Springs House and you can probably find them on their website soon. I reallyd did have a blast at Palm Springs Pride and of course took some pictures, but mostly I was busy rolling on by people and making them smile or laugh. Fun times!! Hopefully I can get back out there one of these days soon and visit with the Palm Springs Sisters some more!

Afterwards I had lunch with Novice Sister Frankly Trueself before heading out of town with Spiketakiss and back to Phoenix. Of course lunch with a Sister during pride is much like taking Mickey Mouse around downtown Disney, so people wanted time with the Sisters:
