Keep on, Keep on, Keep On Folding!

The Paper Crane Project had a productive day yesterday! 4 people learned how to fold a paper crane and joined in the fun, and others learned new tips and tricks to help them fold more successfully! About 60 paper cranes were added to the box, and I recieved an email today telling me 300 more are on their way to be dropped off at 1VCC!

Thanks to Tim from Alternatives Cafe for keeping us well fed and warm and toasty. I always love hanging out at the Alternatives Cafe.

Hundreds of paper cranes folded, and hundreds to go! So keep on folding people, and drop those cranes by 1 VCC at the Alternatives Cafe. 4314 N. 7th Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85013

World AIDS Day Memories

A few pictures from the night before, and the day of World AIDS Day. It was a busy couple of days. Touching and educational.

I enjoyed dancing at ZGirls and Karumba for the World AIDS Day Pre-Party, we have GOT to go back there!

I hope you all had a wonderful day December 1st celebrating the lives of those still with us, and remembering those we've lost.

My favorite parts of World AIDS Day were spending time with friends at the Carnegie Center, painting our hands at the Bookman's booth, folding cranes while socializing at 1VCC, and listening to people share their stories at the United Church of Christ afterwards.

You can see more pictures at the Grand Canyon Sister's Flickr Page

And if you didn't then, and haven't in a while, remember to get tested so you and your partners are aware of your status. Stay safe out there, play fair, and have fun!

1 Voice Paper Cranes Project

Edit: We reached our goal, over 1000 paper cranes to see what we've done with them visit: http://sistermischif.blogspot.com/2008/02/paper-crane-anyone.html

The paper crane has come to symbolize peace. Join Sister Ora Gasmi Delight in folding paper cranes for peace, love and joy in our community. Make a wish as you fold your paper crane, and add it to the collection at 1 Voice Community Center. When we reach 1000 cranes, Sister Ora Gasmi will lead a New Year's Ritual at the center, releasing the community's wishes to the Universe. Stay tuned for more details.

Ancient Japanese legend says that 1000 paper cranes will bring the crane to grant your wish for health or long life. A little girl named Sadako Sasaski attempted to do this using paper from get well gifts, etc. during her stay in the hospital, and inspired a book based on her story, as well as a children's peace memorial. Over time, the paper crane has come to symbolize peace worldwide.

Join us as we wish for peace, love and joy in our Paper Crane Project! You can learn how to fold paper cranes here: http://monkey.org/~aidan/origami/crane/index.html and bring them in with you, or come on into the 1 Voice Community Center 4314 N. 7th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85013., and make them with us!

My Whirlwind Tour

Arizona, SD Caliornia, PS California, and back to AZ in 4 days:

Wednesday I arrived in Scottsdale to stay at a beautiful hotel and participate in the SouthWest HIV Prevention Conferance put on by Body Positive and the Heath Services department. Met lots of wonderful people who do a lot of good in this world, and learned much.

Just as my brain was about to explode from so much input, Sister Odora and I headed off into the sunset and down towards the still smoldering land of San Diego, CA. Which I must admit, is just as beautiful as I remembered it, even after the fires.

We arrived JUST in time to get dressed and meet up with the Asylem of the Tortured heart to celebrate Day of the Dead. What an incredible experience! I dedicated my evening to a young FtM named Ian who recently left this thing we call life and moved onto the next. To learn more about Ian visit woodtv.com

I will send the pics from the event to the Asylum of the Tortured Heart and you can probably see them soon on their website. And afterwards Odora and I had dinner with Sister Iona, and Novices Evalyn, Pixie. Brian's diner brought back memories of times there before I was a Novice myself.

Saturday was spent learning how to better mentor people and help them in their path to become Sisters. Really grateful to Sisters Amanda and Ghana for making that happen. And an evening drive with Odora to Palm Springs where I must admit, I missed out on a bar run to catch up on sleep before pride the next morning.

YUP! Palm Springs Pride! WOW it was amazing. Hot and sunny, but a lovely man from Aids Life Foundation saved my skin with his sunscreen. I think I counted 45 Sisters, but nuns on the run are so hard to keep track of! Seeing a couple Palm Springs Sisters taking their vows was beautiful. I'm sending those pics to the Palm Springs House and you can probably find them on their website soon. I reallyd did have a blast at Palm Springs Pride and of course took some pictures, but mostly I was busy rolling on by people and making them smile or laugh. Fun times!! Hopefully I can get back out there one of these days soon and visit with the Palm Springs Sisters some more!

Afterwards I had lunch with Novice Sister Frankly Trueself before heading out of town with Spiketakiss and back to Phoenix. Of course lunch with a Sister during pride is much like taking Mickey Mouse around downtown Disney, so people wanted time with the Sisters:

Happy Halloween!

Logan's Playground, a local organization for kids who have or are affected by HIV, had a Halloween party and pumpkin carving at Body Positive and we stopped by to spread some smiles. The kids thought we were witches at first glance and a couple got scared, but when we entered the area all smiles and laughter they quickly got over that. It was great fun and the volunteers and parents were great at providing a variety of games to entertain the kids. Everyone looked like they were having a blast.

Postulant Guard Spiketakiss and I had fun making colorful tissue paper ghosts to toss in the air. The smaller kids really enjoyed catching the flying ghosts so I let one little guy keep my 3 eye'd purple tissue paper ghost. After Spiketakiss and N. Sister Odora participated in a cake walk. You can see more on the AZ Sisters' blog at http://azsisters.livejournal.com/13868.html

This is How - Sister Bingo

We had our first Sister Bingo to raise funds for a great cause, This is How.

I worked the door and my usual vodka... greeting people and directing them either to the Sisters who were selling bingo and raffle tickets, or to the bar for brunch depending on why they were there, and of course if they were there for brunch letting them know about Bingo as well and vice versa. I had a good time and hope everyone else did too!

Almost every Sister in the Mission was there helping out, and many hands make light work.

My Prayers for Southern Californians

There are a lot of people I love in Southern California, and right now many in San Diego and Orange Counties who have been evacuated out of their homes with the fear that the fires will take them. Here's a link with updated information about the San Diego fires, evacuation areas, etc. http://tinyurl.com/37dvp2

I empathize with those who are now in the uncertain, unknowing of fire season.

Already over 700 homes have been lost and I really feel for those families. Hopefully the government will step up like it did after the Northridge Earthquakes with help replacing your homes. I offer a prayer of thanks for your safety, and hope for your future.

And for people like my sister who have been evacuated and are living in that uncertainty waiting to see if your homes are saved, I pray for your continued safety physically and emotionally, and strength and safety for all the hard working firefighters through the difficult times. I hope that the most homes possible are saved. I pray for a break in the winds and relief from the fires.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Remembering Rainbows Festival

It occurs to me in the hectic recent days I never posted any pictures from my first day at Rainbows. Let me correct that for you.

It was a wonderful day with N. Sister Frankly Truself and Postulant Guard Spiketakiss. And of course we ran into our friends from the Phoenix Imperial Court, Justice, Julie and Joe.

We soon ran into the ever loving, wonderful PFLAG Moms who gave us rainbow lolipops YAY!

After running around the event and trying to visit every booth and person we could, Spiketakiss and I headed over to volunteer with Equality Arizona, raised money for them, and generally had a good time.

Oh and we helped Arizona Transgender Alliance with their candellight vigil for community unity (unitedENDA.org)

The candellight vigil for "Unity in our Community" took place behind Equality Arizona's booth at Rainbows Festival with their loving support and provision of a shady place to stand. Spiketakiss taped part of it for you:

Surprise surprise, was lead by, you guessed it, me. I wasn't expecting to do more than give them my blessings with Frankly, but was happy to be of service.

Blessings from Brother Odd

Buddhist Prayer of Blessings

We surround all men and all forms of life with infinite love and compassion.

Particularly, do we send out compassionate thoughts to those in suffering and sorrow,

to those in doubt and ignorance,

to all who are striving to attain truth,

and to those whose feet stand close to the great change that men call death,

we send forth all wisdom, mercy and love.

Joyous Jaunt at Tucson Pride

This beautiful town surprises me with something new and wonderful every time I visit. Our first night in town we visited a lovely queer coffee shop right next door to IBT's and had some of the best chicken soup ever. (can't remember it's name tho!)

Here are some pictures from Tucson Pride. (parade and festival)

I think one of my favorite moments was picking up Novice Sister Heidi O'Semeeose, one of the latest manifestations of Novice Sister Odora, who was radiant in pink and passed out a SLEW of Skittles as Sister Blessings to all. Heidi has GOT to come out of the closet more often. Taste the Rainbow!

Atopa and 3M, where are all your pictures?!?! Of course there were too many good times captured with B'neatha Sheets and Oralee Sunshine at the festival later to count.

Waiting for the Parade to start, we were photographed, interviewed and recorded by everyone and their brother, including the Channel 9 news, and a lovely Bear named Mike.

Outside the festival we ran into a ton of friends, new and old. But my favorite memory while sitting by the gate, was meeting a fabulous faery from San Fransisco, who was drumming for cash, so she could get into the event and volunteer for the local gay youth group, EON. I decided to take up a collection, and this amazing man named Sean donated more than enough so she was also able to have lunch. I hope you find your way back to San Fransisco soon sweet faery. And blessings all over your wonderful self Sean! Now that's family.

In Memory of Lady Jaye

My condolances to all who morn her passing and loss.

Lady Jaye, you were a beautiful performer and brought joy to this world. The news of your passing was a shock to me. You brought joy and light into the lives of others through your performance. May you embrace your own joy in the life beyond this one.

I light a candle for your passing, and pray that your loved ones will have strength in the time of your loss. Yet I know you will join those who watch over us. May the Nuns of the Above greet you with the best party ever, and your next life be even better than this last!

HRC Sweatshop? You go SF!

In San Fransisco they know how to protest in fun, humorous, creative and impacting ways! You go San Fransisco! I don't know who all is planning the HRC Sweatshop Playground, but what a hilarious and fun way to protest the injustices HRC has been committing against our community.

Here in Arizona most of us are resting after a weekend of debauchery at Rainbows Festival. But while I'm resting, I thought I'd post another video for you which Spiketakiss and I took while there. First we have AZ Trans Alliance and friends protesting HRC:

Brotherly Libations

Today I attended Rainbows Festival as N. Brother Odd

It was bouncy trouncy, FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN, and I met lots of new friends!

My favorite parts were running into a sexy couple of friends at the entrance... spending time with N. Sister B'neatha and Postulant Guard Spiketakiss...

serving drinks and meeting friends at the Equality Arizona Margarita Booth...

playing with my camera:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uDgCFbcbBQ

and convincing people to tell me all their dirty little secrets... or at least how they feel about the Employment NonDiscrimination Act as you can see in this video of Ethan:

Another little tidbit about Mischif (video)

Join me at Rainbows Festival today and tomorrow serving Margaritas from 3-6 and taking donations for Equality Arizona... but if you can't, watch my video

Edit:
Today we served literally hundreds of drinks and collected about $400 between donations and the money they'll get from the drink tickets. We'll be back at it tomorrow. Pics to come!
